The webinar, Unleashing the Power: ZIVAN's SG9 for Challenging Worksites, introduced a revolutionary breakthrough in industrial charging technology.
The SG9 stands out as the first portable, off-board charger designed for low-voltage compatibility while delivering up to 9 kW of power. This versatile solution addresses a critical gap in the market, providing manufacturers and fleet operators with a durable, efficient charging system tailored to off-road applications.
Backed by over four decades of expertise in industrial electrification, ZIVAN engineered the SG9 to meet the rigorous requirements of OEMs worldwide. Every specification—spanning compact dimensions, customisable charging connectors, and exceptional safety standards—sets a new benchmark for industrial charging solutions.
Mechanical Specifications: A Portable, Ruggedised, and Modular Footprint
To overcome the logistical challenges and limitations of both on-board and stationary chargers, a new solution was necessary.
The SG9 fills this gap with a distinctive architecture capable of accommodating even the most demanding work environments:
- Weight – At 87 kg, the SG9 remains light enough to be moved across worksites by a single person. The inclusion of a handle and ruggedised wheels enables portability across uneven terrain, making it well-suited for worksites where charging locations may change frequently.
- Dimensions – Measuring 1002 x 526 x 576 mm, or roughly a meter tall and just over half a meter in width and depth, each SG9 unit optimises space efficiency. This compact size simplifies storage and deployment without compromising power density.
- Ingress protection rating – With an IP55-rated exterior and IP65-rated internal protection, the SG9 is durably built to handle the dust, debris, vibration, moisture, and similar challenges inherent to outdoor worksites and heavy-duty applications.
- Operating temperature – Rated for temperatures between -20C to +50C and designed to handle operations in virtually any climate, the SG9 distinguishes itself from traditional off-board charging options.
This lightweight yet power-dense frame is achieved via modularity—a technology that allows for multiple chargers to “stack” upon each other and deliver higher power without overwhelming low-voltage equipment.
Leveraging this modular frame, the SG9 scales to the application with up to three SG3 chargers, a field-tested model chosen due to its robust industrial build and legacy of high performance.
AC/DC Capabilities: Accommodating Varying Voltages
Another key feature of the SG9 is its near-universal compatibility across electrical infrastructures. In addition to those listed below, input and output connectors are customisable by ZIVAN upon customer request.
AC Input
Optimal for lower power needs or operations reliant on residential grids, the SG9’s nominal AC input voltage ranges include:
- 100-240 VAC [1-Phase]
- 200-240 VAC [3-Phase]
- 400 VAC [3-phase + Neutral]
These input options are at a standard AC input frequency of 50/60 Hz, further ensuring compatibility. Maximum AC input current ranges from:
- 48A [1-Phase]
- 27.7A [3-Phase]
- 16A [3-Phase + Neutral]
Notably, the SG9 delivers an efficiency rating of over 93% across all ranges, exceeding a critical threshold in achieving sustainable and efficient operations. Additional relevant specifications include:
- An inrush current of less than 9A, reducing electrical stress during startup
- Maximum absorbed power of 9.9 kW to support faster machine charging
- Standard AC power connector choices of NEMA (North America) or CEKON (Europe)
These specifications were strategically chosen to meet the diverse international charging standards OEMs may encounter. For example, single-phase 100-240 VAC is critical in the US, whereas three-phase 200-240 and 400 VAC sees extensive use in Japan and Europe.
This adaptability eliminates the need for region-specific modifications, reducing logistical complexities and deployment costs for OEMs.
DC Output
For high-powered applications and charging needs, the SG9 supports the following DC output voltages and maximum output currents:
- 36 V: 240 A
- 48 V: 180 A
- 72 V: 125 A
- 96 V: 90 A
- 96 V / 48 V (Multi-Voltage Output): 90 A
These voltage and current combinations ensure efficient charging while enabling OEMs to select a configuration appropriate to the power demands and battery types of their machinery.
By default, the SG9 also comes with the following DC output connector options:
- DIN plug (e.g., REMA, Schaltbau)
- Flat plug (e.g., Anderson)
Note that the SG9 offers multi-voltage output; for example, the 96V: 90A configuration is capable of charging 72V batteries. While this versatility may limit maximum power transfer (and potentially increase charging times), it broadens the SG9’s usability across diverse OEM applications, reducing the need for multiple charging solutions.
Regulatory Approvals: ZIVAN’s SG9 Poised for Global Deployment
In addition to technical compatibility, the SG9 was carefully constructed to meet exacting international standards out-of-the-box; there is no need to change out transformers or other parts—regardless of where OEMs seek to deploy.
These deliberate design choices are backed by international certifications including:
- UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) – Meets the United Kingdom’s stringent health, safety, and environmental protection standards.
- Conformité Européenne (CE) certified – Demonstrates self-declared compliance with the European Union’s rigorous directives on safety, health, and environmental protection for simplified deployment across EU member states.
- California Energy Commission (CEC) compliance – Validates that the SG9 meets California’s high energy efficiency standards, aimed at reducing energy waste. Similar efficiency requirements are expected to be adopted across the United States.
- Qualified Product Standard (QPS) certified – Adheres to electrical safety standards in the US and other international markets.
Together, these certifications position the SG9 as a globally deployable solution, reducing logistical complexities for OEMs while ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple markets.
